SOCIETY OF PHILIPPINE
AMERICAN ARTISTS NEWSLETTER
Fall 2003_________________________________________________________No.

Fellow Artists,
Summer has come and gone.
As you may know by now our plan
for the summer picnic has been scuttled because of problems with
communication. We can take this up in our next general meeting
and the lessons we learned from it. We're into a new season and
there are more events to prepare for.
Election of Officers: We have not completed this process
after calling it off twice for lack of quorum. In the June 8,
2003 meeting in the Jamaica residence of Dr. Fulgado, you elected
me as president but postponed the election of the rest of the
officers for the next general meeting. I propose that instead,
we shall make it a write-in election, in which members who are
in good standing (paid the 2003 dues on our last group show) could
send their ballots by mail. I will mail these ballots with the
names of all members who are also qualified to hold office. The
procedure will be described in the mailer. This will include a
form in which artists could sign in to volunteer in various committees,
etc. We should accomplish this by October 31, 2003 so that the
new team can get down to plan for next year.
Christmas Party:We are holding one by popular request.
The last one we had was in 1998 at Casa Victoria, in Jersey City.Lenore
Lim has booked the Philippine Pastoral Center in Manhattan, on
Saturday December 13th. 12:00 to 5:00 PM, This will be family
pot luck lunch and exchange gifts in form of artworks among members
will be a feature. Please mark your calendars. The artists in charge
will contact you. Suggestions and questions are welcome.
Philippine Exhibit: We are working to hold an exhibit
in the Philippines next year besides our annual show here. Contacts
are being made with possible venues/galleries and local art professional
group in Manila. This will take place sometime in July or August
2004. We'll have more information by end of the month.
New Consul General:We are bidding Goodbye and Godspeed
to ConGen Linglingay. Lacanlale. She has been a good friend of
the SPAA. We say Welcome to her replacement Cecile Rebong whom
some of you had met in our previous opening receptions at the
Philippine Center as former cultural attache.
New Website:Jessica Robas, our member from Toronto has
volunteered to construct the long awaited webpage. In fact you
can log in at to take a peek at the format and see that much is
still to be done, but it is a start. Many thanks to Jessica.
Page 2/2
She is starting webpage design
as part of her professional services, but has volunteered to put
our stuff together and launch us to cyberspace. The catch is,
we have to supply her with the necessary information for her to
synthesize into an attractive presentation.
So please send us ASAP photos and/or
digital images of your masterpieces we could use. If you have
done so in the past for the book project, you may update and add
more. Send these to me not later than October 24, at 160 Centre
Avenue, Secaucus, NJ07094, or email at durezart@aol.com. Jessica's
email address: j.robas @rogers.com. As our website expands and
gets updated we shall eventually devote part of our dues to maintain
the site and compensate the webmaster. For now it is free because
it is split in individual pages.
Congratulations : To Lito Ballesteros for the
successful shows at the Philippine Fiesta and recent show at the
PhilCenter.
