A December to remember
The Christmas party is long past, butthe memories of that one
Saturday last December seem to hang around a little longer.
That was the best of our gatherings since our founding day in
Secaucus in the summer of ’95. That was made possible
by every one pitching in, in the spirit of fellowship and cooperation
that we hope to see more of in the coming years.
Many thanks to all of you who cheerfully responded,
brought great savory food and drinks, gifts, new friends and
new members.Special thanks to Lenore Lim who prepared the hall
and Christmas tree,Mahal Dureza for the door prizes, and piano
man Luis Caraos and the singers Dr. Reyes, Tony Valdez, Pablo
Mahinay, Ernie Avila.
Thanks most of all to our venerable artist and founder, Mang
Maning Rodriguez, who played Santa. He gathered enough strength
to make those prints as his gifts to each one, while still on
rehab following his stroke. Thanks too to Via, his daughter,
for taking care that her dad didn’t miss the party.
Welcome to prospective members:

SPAA WEBSITE
Jessica Robas, God bless her, who is based
in Toronto, has progressed much since she undertook publishing
our site. She has also established links for our members who
already have web pages. She can do more but she’s limited
by how much information we can supplyher for updates and photos.
We can start to feature an artist of the month for those without
web pages but we need pictures of your work, 150 word or so
artbio, and an optional personal photo. Jessica would prefer
this be emailed or in diskette/cd rom post mailed.
I tried one of these free pages offered by domain and web publishers
(dozens of choices) which will give you step by step instruction
on how to make your own. My handiwork is at http://siteskins.net/durezart.
Visit this site that looks like a grade school project, but
I got responses like, how nice the paintings are, but no cigars.
I encourage all artists to go online and own a page.
Exhibit in Manila 2004: We are talking to
Eric Zerrudo of the GSIS Museum (near PICC) for a show date
in Manila. We requested for August. Lenore Lim, who has previously
shown there, shall negotiate the details when she goes to Manila
by the end of January. Our works will be go thru a Curator,
Expenses will be incurred for shipping and handling/ transportation,
insurance, opening reception, printing of brochures and invites.
No theme has been suggested yet, but, surely we simply have
to put out our best. Manila has a sophisticated audience. Joe
will have a show in Iloilo City in July but will stay to take
care of business as required. So prepare yourselves. Keep on
painting. Send your comments, suggestions, and ideas. And tap
$ponsors for the show JAD
P.S.
When done in MS Word this page looked okay. Then I did a cut
and paste routine instead of sending this as attachment, it
came out in this page jumbled beyond recognition. I just cleaned
this up to make it readable. I need help/advice from anyone
who knows this business. Please see attachment of photos which
is too big a file for this page, the original page exceeded 16mb.
I'll send them in installments in the suceeding mail. They are
selected photos for 2004. If you have photos to share and have
a scanner, please share those precious moments. Better still
if you order your prints by kodak CD. Very convenient.
Thanks, Joe
