Filipino –American artists show in Manila.

The Society of Philippine American Artists based in New York City impressed Manilas with its group art exhibit “Babalik Ka Rin” at the GSIS Museum in Manila. Fifteen members of the SPAA headed by its founding president, Manuel Rodriguez, Sr., exhibited their works in water colors, acrylics, oils, and prints, to the delight of a huge crowd during the opening reception last July 7, 2004.

Mr. Raul Sunico, Dean of the UST Conservatory of Music, cut the ceremonial ribbon. He was assisted by Joe Dureza, president of the SPAA, Fidel Sarmiento president of the Art Association of the Philippines, and Eric Zerrudo, the director of the GSIS Museum.

Other SPAA members Maria Madonna Davidoff, Tony Valdez, and Manila based Manuel Gamboa, were also on hand for the reception. The group of exhibitors included Ernie Avila, Dr. Mars Custodio,Cesar de los Santos, Dulcie Dee, Oscar Dizon, Lenore Lim, Pablo Mahinay, Emilia Monroy, Julian Oteyza, and Jowell Gaella.

The show also highlighted the works of equal number of the leading members of the Art Association of the Philippines, the premier art group in the country. This group will be heading for Seoul, South Korea, in August.

This exhibit is significant in that, it was the first venture of the SPAA outside New York, and the first joint exhibition of these two groups.
